The story of my weekend:
I was sitting at home on Sunday after sleeping late that morning and I was looking forward to a nice relaxing day of nothing. Then the phone rang.
It was Josh inviting me to go to Mexico with him. The plan was to pick up some friends of his and then spend a long weekend in Mexico.
He talked me into it.
We head out from my place around 6:00 PM. We go to Orange County to meet up with his friends. His friends were two sisters who we met up with on a boat. They were there with their parents and two dumb guys. Their parents fed us some good food and then we went back to their parents place. There the girls told us that they didn't want to go to Mexico. Josh and I were pretty pissed at them because we wasted time that we could have been going to Mexico with. My asshole switch was flipped and I started being very rude to them. We left and headed for Mexico. I did take a picture.
We continued on to Mexico. Josh was driving his car, and it was decided that for his amusement that as he drove it was my job to be drunk. So we stopped at most places where I could drink and I would have a beer. This seemed like a great idea at the time.
Entering Mexico was no problem at all. The border control barely looked at us, and there were many bars for us to stop at for me to get a drink. We continued past Tijuana to Ensenada.
Ensenada is like the ultimate playground for underage girls and frat boys (always a great combination) the bars were insane. There were these two chicks that were patrons of the bar. The bar has all these poles set up randomly throughout the bar. One of the women was dancing at the pole while the other was dancing under it. They were doing a sort of lesbian type show for everyone (but fully clothed). The man behind the bar (the bartender) kept yelling at them on the megaphone (yelling something in Spanish.) I was assuming that he was yelling at the girls to stop or something. Then he walks out from behind the bar, lifts up the other girl who was on the floor and lifts her onto the pole. So now we have two chicks on a pole doing a lesbo dance with each other. A lot of couples on the dance floor were doing some very heavy grinding. It was pretty crazy. This was a Sunday night by the way.
This bar actually has people whose job is to encourage the women.
So I had my beer and we left. I was getting pretty drunk and it was getting hard to walk.
I should mention now by the way the Josh is one of my friends who I trust %100. He's one of those guys who can really take care of most anything that happens. That is the only reason I was not afraid to be drunk in Mexico.
We walked over to a few more bars but they were all dying. It was about 4:00 AM and the city closes at 2:00 AM, but a few places stay open till 5:00 AM. Come 5:00 we got into the car and kept going South.
Then in happened. I started to not feel so good.
I banged on the window which means "Please pull over Josh, I need to vomit."
He didn't pull over in time.
I started throwing up in my hands. But soon enough my hands were full. He reached in front of me to open the door and I threw up all over his arm (all over his arm.) Josh then went into shock and was useless for the next thirty seconds. I was leaning over the car seat still wearing my seatbelt trying to get into the street. I was yelling, "Seatbelt, seatbelt!" but Josh still in shock.
Eventually he took off my seatbelt for me and I was on my hands and knees in on the streets of Ensenada vomiting. I remember thinking to myself "Marc, this is your lowest point ever."
My pants and shirt and face and legs and shoes were covered in vomit. I looked like this.
The vomit was all over the car and we had no cleaning supplies and I was pretty useless.
Luckily we had a changes of clothes. Josh wiped me off with something and gave me some shorts to put on. I put the shorts halfway on. We continued driving.
I did not have the strength to put my shirt on, and my shorts were still only halfway on. Then we came to a checkpoint. I remember thinking to myself, "I should really put on my shirt now." but I didn't. Josh explained in broken Spanish that I was his stinky friend who didn't feel very well. They searched the trunk but did not enter the car (the car smelled REAL bad.)
We continued on.
We got to Coyote Cal's. It's a sort of surfing/hangout/vacation spot. For like ten bucks we got two beds in a room with 6 beds. The rest of the beds were empty however. I don't remember much of the checking in process.
The next morning was a first for me. I woke up in a room alone, not really knowing where I was, but knowing I was in Mexico. That was scary for a few minutes until I found some people.
I met Carlos who runs the place. Every morning he makes pancakes for everyone (it was 4:00 PM when I got up so the pancakes were pretty cold) and there are always beans and rice on the stove to eat.
I was pretty dead the rest of the day but I had a great time. We were right on the Ocean and this was the sort of place where people stay if the want to just hang out and meet other travellers. There was a guy from Germany who was really nice, a guy from Florida who was just their to surf (he was in a gang when he was 12, a very interesting person to talk to) and an older couple from Holland. There was also Carlos, the person who runs the place. He's really cool.
We basically hung out for the rest of the day, went to town to buy some beer (I didn't drink any) and at night we built a fire and talked for a while. It was very fun. I had a really great time. We bought two live lobsters for 3 bucks a peice from some guys and cooked them up. They were good!
We left the next day we had to head out. On the way to Ensenada we ran into Lloyd. Lloyd works at Coyote Cal's in exchange for living their for free. He's an old burnt out pothead (he's American). He was amazed by my digital camera. I then told him about the quarter operated sexual androids we have in America. He was amazed by them also. He says it's hard to keep up.
So we got to Ensenada, got some food that didn't taste too good, and headed back to Los Angeles.
As a thank you to Josh I bought him dinner at Doughboys, a very good restaurant in LA. They have a sandwich that is two slices of french toast between chocolate, banana, and peanut butter. That is a damn good sandwich.
