Wow, I've really been lagging in getting these updates done. Not only in writing them but in posting that ones I wrote in Chinaland.
The reason I've been so bad about posting the ones the I wrote in Chinaland is because they need so much proofreading that I just really haven't had time to do that yet. Also, I want to link everything in the logs to the proper picture, that will take a while to.
As far as simply not writing updates I just have been very busy, but yesterday I posted all of the china pictures.
This weekend was pretty action filled thus far. Let me tell you about it.
Friday night something happened that I have waited years to happen. I got to meet Emo Philips. I almost got to meet him a few months ago on a film shoot, but that didn't work out. But I got to meet Emo Philips.
A little background:
About 12 years I was going to a Philip Glass (best composer alive) concert. My Mom always told me about how this comedian, Emo Philips, goes to the concerts. I didn't know who Emo was, so I decided to find out who he is. I got a hold of some of his standup and watched it. It was hilarious. He very quickly became my favorite comedian. So, I go to this Philip Glass concert and Emo was there. I went up to him and talked to him for a minute or two. He gave me an autographed 8x10. The 8x10 had the address for his fan club (Emophiliacs) on the back.
A couple months after that I went to Japan as a foreign exchange student. One of the teachers in one of my class in Japan wouldn't let me read during class (even thought I didn't speak Japanese) so I decided to write Emo a letter. I wrote him a pretty long letter, like 9-12 pages. I wrote the letter as a letter that a best friend would write a best friend if he were visiting Japan. I never said who I was or explained why I was writing him. When I finished the letter
I signed my name as something totally unreadable. I mailed the letter from Japan.
So for these 12 years I have been wondering what Emo thought about this letter. Would he remember it, did it bother him that he doesn't know who wrote it? Well now comes my chance to find out. I was very excited.
So we went to the comedy club. Me, Sam, Lucas, Josh, and Josh's Mexican Lover. Angelia couldn't make it.
Normally I hate comedy clubs/comedians. I don't find comedians to be very funny and they tend to be very egoistical to speak with. But, I had a wonderful time. All the comics were very funny. David Chappelle even showed up unannounced. He was great.
But oh my god, Emo was so funny. He was better then I remembered him. I came there being a bit suspicious because I haven't seen anything Emo has done for years, and when I went to his website he looked very different. So I was scared that he changed his act or something. But he was very similar (but funnier.)
We were unfortunate enough to have a table right at the stage. So we got made fun of a bit. One of the comedians kept making eye contact with me, like he has doing his whole skit for me personally. That was uncomfortable. But Emo during his act talked to Lucas. When he asked Lucas what he did Lucas said "Animator." But then when he asked Lucas what he animates twice Lucas responded with, "Uhhhhhh." So Lucas looked like a dumbass.
So when Emo was finished with his act I watched to see where he went. He sat in the back of the club. As soon as the show was over I went over and talked to him. Emo was a nice guy (he was the last time I talked to him as well) but he never got the letter. He did seem interested by the idea of it. Then we talked for a little bit and he asked me to e-mail him (I think he did, I was a bit drunk). So that's it. All those years for that.
So that was Friday.
Saturday was the cast/crew screening of Andy's film that I shot, American Coffee. The screening went well and Andy had a party afterwards. It was nice to see all those people again, but I didn't stay long at the party (which I regret) because the final episode of Walker Texas Ranger was on. I've never actually seen a full episode of the show, so I figured that was a good way to start. The show was worse then I could have imagined. Throughout the show I was thinking to myself, "It would be really stupid if they did this." and then the show did it.
But Lucas and I did come up with a kind of good idea for a short that we may make. I doubt it will get made, but it would be funny I think.
Then we watched part of Manhunter.
Today I am spending the day writing this update and trying to clean up my apartment from 2 days of hanging out with friends, and 6 days of neglect.
Then I am having dinner with Angelia and a bunch of other people (her parents and their friends.) I haven't seen her for a while, so I'm really looking forward to it. Since she just graduated she's back at her parents house for the time being. That makes seeing her more difficult.
So my brother told me he gave his job 2 weeks notice. So I am trying to convince him to come to California. He should hang out here and try to find a job. I think California would be good for him.
Andy's film that I shot, American Coffee, made it into some film festival. So I'm going to PA this weekend for the festival. I've never been to Pennsylvania before. I'm looking forward to it.
I talked to Roger Corman's guy this week, and I'm definitely worked on the next Corman movie shot in LA. They don't know what position I will be, but at least I'll be working on another feature. This one will be 35mm. It's an earthquake movie, should be a lot of fun. I think they'll find a way to work nudity into an earthquake setting.
Wow, it's already almost mid afternoon. I gotta get going I have other stuff to get done before I head out.
Sorry about the lack of enthusiasm on my part for this site. As if it matters.
