Ever hear of those people who don't know they are pregnant? That happened to my friend Chris's girlfriend. They found out she was pregnant in November and she had the baby a couple days ago.
Here are the pictures. This one is my favorite.
I went to Chris's house the night that little Leo was born. We had martini's and cigars. I had a Cuban (supposedly) cigar in Mexico a few days previously and even though I really don't know cigars I could tell the one that I was having that night was crap. But it was still fun. I also once again realized that I really like martinis, and Chris taught me how to make them.
It was really fun going to Chris's house that night. He was so genuinely happy, and drunk. I stayed for an hour or two and we just hung out and talked. It was a really nice night. I took this picture of him that night and I think it really shows how happy he was.
Yesterday was the first day of shooting for the feature I'm working on. I'm shooting it on MiniDV and it's in black and white. I never shot B&W on MiniDV before so we scheduled it to be a test day for different lighting situations. The director and I differ pretty often in how much time I should take for lighting, and how much should be lit. But he is totally aware of how it will look if we don't take the time to do all the lighting I would want to do, and since he's the director I'm going with what he says. I shot a lot of stuff lit in ways I normally would never light a scene. But since it was only I test weekend I didn't really worry about it. We shot stuff his way, then we shot stuff more my way.
But when I say my way, I don't really mean my way. We physically don't have the crew or the lights to light this movie the way I would want to. I have to think very differently about this movie because we basically don't have anything to work with. But it's a fun challenge. Both the director and I are very aware that this movie will not look great, but we're coming up with a look that works for the film, and hopefully we will be able to maintain for the whole movie.
We went over the test shoot footage today and we were pretty happy with most of it, and the stuff we were unhappy about we know how to fix. So it was a very successful test shoot. I am looking forward to the rest of the shoot. The director thinks very differently from me visually and I know this will look very different from anything I've shot before. I know I'll learn a lot from it.
I had to choose to do this project rather then two others I was offered to work on, and I really do feel like I made the right choice.
Today I went to a meeting of a Cinematographers Mailing List that I am on. They happen about 2-3 times a year. They are cool because it's always nice to put a face with the names I read all the time on e-mails. It's a really good group and I'm friendly with a few of the people on it. It's also nice because many times on set I'll run into someone who I've previously met before at one of these get togethers.
Tonight Josh and his girlfriend are coming over to watch cartoons. I just recently learned about Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network and I'm addicted. I hate sitting alone and watching TV so I invited him and his lady friend are coming over to watch with me.
